TREE SAN DIEGO FAQs

How do I/how does my company/group volunteer with Tree San Diego?

I received a packet of tree seeds. How do I properly plant them? (jacaranda)

  • Check out this simplified instruction card for starting your tree seeds at home!

Can I donate a tree? Can I get a memorial tree planted?

  • We do not currently have the ability to accept specified tree donations at this time. You can still support Tree San Diego's work to increase San Diego's urban forest with a tax-deductible donation.

  • Alternatively, you can check with your local city or school may be taking tree donations.

  • Memorial tree plantings are typically handled by the City Parks department. Not all cities offer this as it depends on the city’s formal or informal practices (policies and/or tree planting practices).

How can I collaborate or become a partner with TSD?

  • If you or your organization is interested in partnering with our team on a program or grant project please contact us

Can TSD provide arborist/landscape referrals?

  • The Professional Tree Care Association of San Diego (PTCA) has a list of certified arborists you can pick from here. The California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) also has a site where you can search for landscape contractors here

How can I get more involved in urban forestry?

  • Become a certified Tree Steward and encourage your friends, family, and community members to become certified with you!

  • Encourage community members to donate to and volunteer with urban forestry and tree planting organizations like Tree San Diego.

  • Attend city council meetings when budgets are being reviewed and request that they devote funds to expanding environmental programs and urban forestry expansion.

  • Plant trees on your property and take part in city-wide tree planting events.

  • Familiarize yourself with your city’s Urban Forestry plan. If your city does not have an Urban Forestry plan, advocate for one!

  • Ask your City Forester or planning department if the City's Climate Action Plan has a tree planting initiative and what the timeline is to implement it.

  • Join community groups that support urban forestry projects.

  • Encourage community members and neighbors to volunteer at events like Arbor Day.

Who do I contact about fallen trees in my neighborhood?

  • We encourage you to reach out to your city forester or public works department for information about street tree removal.

Where can I find tree planting information?

  • Please reference the Canopy.org website for more information about specified tree planting practices.
