Project: Plan & Plant

Project Summary

UPDATES COMING SOON!

On September 14, 2023, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service awarded more than $1 billion in competitive grants to plant and maintain trees, combat extreme heat and climate change, and improve access to nature. Communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and several U.S. Territories and Tribal Nations have received funding, covered by the Justice40 Initiative and made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act – the largest climate investment in history.

Tree San Diego is excited to share that we have received $2,000,000 for our San Diego Regional Plan & Plant (P&P) project! What positive impacts will the P&P project make in San Diego County?

PEOPLE: Provides paid training for 300 Treejectory candidates
PLAN: Creates a regional Urban Forestry Management Plan for the entire county
PLANT: Plants/distributes 1,500 trees through the continuation of the Branch Out San Diego program

“With our three-pillared approach of prioritizing planning, planting, and people, we are creating a holistic, forward-thinking program that fosters a more equitable and resilient county. The development of a Regional Urban Forestry Master Plan will lead the way to sustainable urban forest management.” - Elektra Fike-Data, Executive Director, Tree San Diego
