April 2024: Kick Off to Spring Planting Season

Tree Planting, Inventories, Trainings, and More!

Our month commenced with a tree planting event at Altadena Head Start, in collaboration with Empathy in Nature, aiming to foster children's connection to a nature-centered play space. Additionally, we worked alongside Preserve Calavera to remove dead trees in preparation for our upcoming tree planting project later this month.

Our youth engagement efforts proved to be quite successful as well!

With support from the City of La Mesa, Tree San Diego provided a Tree Steward training to students at Helix High, fostering a deeper understanding of urban forestry. We also partnered with students from Health Sciences High for a rewarding tree planting session. At the Girl Scouts Incredible Race, we challenged the girls to test their tree identification skills; many of them exhibiting signs of being young tree enthusiasts!

This past week, our Treejectory+ Spring Cohort engaged in hands-on experiences, ranging from propagation and pruning to tree inventorying and mapping. We also explored the diverse applications of reclaimed wood during

a visit to an urban timber showroom.

There is more to come this planting season!

Come visit us in the field for a Tree Trek, a Leafing Our Legacy tree distribution, or a tree planting event!
